Overview

THE key to building a vibrant relationship between the City and its inhabitants is communication: it is democracy in action.

Good communication is making sure that the local government gets to hear what residents and businesses think and, in turn, letting people know what the local government is up to – and the City’s department of public liaison is the pivot for this process.

The department makes sure that all of Joburg’s inhabitants know about the City’s policies and strategies and its myriad projects and programmes. It is responsible for the overall message conveyed by the City, as well as for specific events or issues.

Besides its public relations and information role, the department also organises the City’s flagship events and markets Johannesburg internationally, nationally and locally as a world-class African city.
