 Joburg is the destination of choice for call centre operators

A

 LIGNED to the ICT industry, the BPO sector is burgeoning in Joburg, with the City already the destination of choice for call centre operators in SA (DTI 2002 Study: 60 percent of 410 238 call centres in SA in Joburg).

This is set to grow even more rapidly with Joburg’s Digital Smart City plans; the supply of faster, cheaper broadband through Seacom; the EASSy and SAT-3/WASC undersea cable systems; and the City’s Business Communication Zone plans in the Inner City.

Joburg’s advantages include:

  • Workforce has good command of English
  • Relatively skilled workforce
  • Inner City Urban Development Zone incentives
