Joburg is the primary film location in Gauteng

JOBURG is the country’s primary broadcasting hub for international television and radio.

The City hosts the first digital, server-based TV operation in Africa, through CNBC Africa, which broadcasts to 48 countries.

Joburg is home to a sophisticated IP-based broadcast platform, the International Broadcast Centre. Joburg was rated the 10th most creative city in the Cannes Lions Report 2009. Joburg is the primary film shoot location in Gauteng, with the province handling over 50 percent of all commercials shot in SA.

The Gauteng audio visual industry contributes over ZAR 2.5-billion, with over 70 percent of the South African film and TV industry based in Gauteng.

Joburg is well placed to become the African centre of excellence in innovative and creative media and entertainment content generation, including animation and computer-generated graphics (CGG).
