06/10/2015: Joburg Theatre Youth Development in partnership with Mercury Durban Theatre award-winning Mthokozisi Zulu and Thuso Mbedu presents “THE CROOK’S EYE”
06 October 2015
The increased Mzansi crime has slowly become the norm with mugging, the abuse of women and rape so prevalent that stories go unreported. THE CROOK’S EYE tells the story of what just happened next door.

Created by Mercury Durban Theatre award-winning Mthokozisi Zulu and Thuso Mbedu, who plays the principal role of ‘Boni’ in SAINTS AND SINNERS season 1 & 2, also 'Kitso’ on e-tv’s SCANDAL, this is a must see!

THE CROOK’S EYE is a serious drama with choreographic story-telling symbolically woven in to the structure. Mthokozisi Zulu is a cum laude Drama graduate from the Durban University of Technology who believes theatre is more than entertainment. It reflects on society imbuing the edutainment with an awareness that prompts change.

Thuso Mbedu is a cum laude graduate of the University of Witwatersrand who believes that as time continues to run on, it appears to be running away with the value placed on human lives.

“Too often we hear of grievous crimes committed against people and go through the motions of feigning hurt but recover and proceed with life as if nothing happened. When will enough be enough? Until such a time comes we will use art as a tool to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable”.

There is crime in South Africa, but what is important is what is done about that? The outcome derives from the decision taken when one is confronted by the crook’s eye. Feeling a little unfit? Well, go for a walk or a short jog around the neighbourhood.

That should make one feel a tad bit better, right? Right! The unfortunate part is that people now apparently need more than just running shoes, shorts and a vest. Essentials, include something with which one can defend themselves from the crook’s eye.
