28/07/2016: Joburg Mayor ready for daring fundraising cause
28 July 2016
The City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Councillor Parks Tau is ready to spend Thursday, 28 July 2016, which is the coldest night of this winter on the streets for the Sun International CEO SleepOut aimed at raising funds for a good cause.

Speaking just hours before the event that will see him spend a night on the Nelson Mandela Bridge in the Johannesburg City Centre, Mayor Tau said: “I am ready to make a difference by taking up the challenge.”

He will be joined on the bridge by the Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Human Settlements, Mr. Paul Mashatile, Wits SRC President, Ms. Nompendulo Mkatshwa and the Johannesburg Junior Mayor, Mr. Teddy Mathekga.

Mayor Tau said: “I look forward to hosting my team and interacting with other participants tonight. It is going to be my second year of participation in the CEO SleepOut and I am prepared to brave the cold for a good cause.”

“As a political activist and an elected Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, my passion and mandate is to change people’s lives for the better, hence my participation in the CEO SleepOut again this year. It is important to realise that active participation and partnerships on these kind of initiatives is necessary to build a better society,” he said.

Mayor Tau described last year’s CEO SleepOut as having been “tough”. “I only had a side wooden bench, cardboard and a thin sleeping bag for the cold night, but it was all worth it,” he said.
“Having a clear understanding - in the midst of the cold night - that the primary objective is to support an initiative that enhances the work of the City in caring for the most vulnerable in our communities, is humbling and makes my participation fulfilling,” Mayor Tau said..
