12/09/2016: Men’s health clinic Launch in COJ Region E in partnership with Anova Health4men
12 September 2016
Anova Health4men project and COJ Region E are launching men’s clinic at 8th Avenue clinic and Wendywood clinic on the 16th September 2016 and 23rd September 2016 respectively.

Health4men has developed extensive expertise in all areas of MSM and men sexual health over the years including HIV combination prevention and both STI and HIV treatment and mental health for men.

Generally men use health care services to a lesser extent than women, A study done by Tidiver & Talbort, 2010 on why men do not seek medical help in primary health care found that men perceive seeking help as a weakness and vulnerability, other systematic barriers are time and access from the clinic including lack of male health care providers, what Health4men and COJ intends to do is to bridge the gap by providing health care specifically to men by male health care providers at the clinic who are skilled, trained and competent in providing care and attends to men’s health and MSM.

Health4men has three men’s clinic centers of excellence at Yeoville, Zola and Chiawelo and we want to extend the expertise to other regions as well. Men’s clinic at Region E will operate on Tuesdays from 07h30 to 16h00. Services rendered will be STI-related services: Screening and treatment: Free and confidential screenings for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and genital warts.

HIV-related services: Screening, monitoring, management & counselling: Free and confidential HIV screening in a discreet and relaxed environment. If you do test positive you can also expect to receive CD4 and viral load testing and counselling.

Treatment:
Free antiretroviral treatment therapy, based on your CD4 count and other medical factors. Once you’re on ARVs your healthcare workers will continue to monitor your health and will be available to address any side-effects you may experience.

In addition to HIV and other STIs, you can consult your healthcare worker if you have any other sexual health concerns, like your prostate, testicular and anal health.
Health 4men Condoms, Max condoms and Lubricants will be accessed in the clinic including IEC material specific to MSM and men’s health as well.
