08/02/2017: R4 million allocated towards city wide grass cutting
08 February 2017
Yesterday the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) operations officials met to address the issue of grass and vegetation city wide.

I am pleased to announce that JRA has issued a purchase order of R4 million to JCPZ and cutting should commence towards the end of this week. A list of all prioritised roads per Region will be circulated to all stakeholders by the end of the week.

A number of different departments and entities were historically tasked with the responsibility of grass cutting and vegetation control. This arrangement is cumbersome and we are in the process of ensuring that this responsibility is centralised to fall under JCPZ. We have no doubt that this will dramatically improve the existing state of affairs.

We, as the new administration, are committed to working towards restoring the aesthetic beauty of our City.

While the City’s grass cutting and vegetation control budget is limited, we trust that the R4 million allocated towards this purpose will make a significant difference in the overall appearance of the City.

Cllr Herman Mashaba
Executive Mayor
City of Johannesburg
