23/02/2017: City working tirelessly to address power outages in Mayfair, Industria, Cleveland and Olifantsvlei substations
23 February 2017
City Power is experiencing power outages at the Mayfair, Industria, Cleveland and Olifantsvlei substations.

Damage to a feeder board due to fire at the Mayfair Substation resulted in a total black-out of all areas supplied from this substation and Olifantsvlei substation is out due to cable theft.

Despite the unfavourable weather conditions we are currently experiencing, City Power officials have assessed the damage caused and have been working tirelessly to repair damaged equipment.

Areas affected by the outage are as follows:

Mayfair Substation
• Vrededorp
• Mayfair
• Tiger Brand
• Pennyville
• Milpark
• Amalgam
• Crown

Cleveland Substation
• Denver,
• Jeppe,
• Fairview,
• Troyville,
• Kensington

I have requested that City Power provide mobile power stations to critical areas such as areas where residents are in need of electrically-powered oxygen machinery and City Power is currently engaging with ESKOM to determine how these two utilities can work together to assist residents that draw power from Mayfair substation.

The City apologises to residential and business customers for the inconvenience caused due to these power outages.

City Power will be updating residents on progress made via their Twitter Account, @CityPowerJhb and I urge residents experiencing loss of power to contact the City of Johannesburg Call Centre at 0860 562 874 or log a call on the City Power website www.citypower.co.za by clicking on “Fault Logging”.
