23/02/2017: Exciting end of the month shows at Soweto Theatre
23 February 2017

On the 24th of February we present the exciting live music programme, Sounds of Soweto in conjunction with Soweto Theatre, featuring Urban Village and Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness (BCUC).

Sounds of Soweto is an opportunity for the theatre to celebrate music legends of yesterday while also discovering the musical voices of tomorrow that will be born in this historic township. For this event, Soweto Theatre has partnered with His and Hers Jams-a multimedia platform that focuses on artists that have little exposure in the mainstream media but have a huge support in alternative youth culture space. The programme is supported by the Johannesburg based business catalyst J&B Hive Johannesburg, Nedbank, Arts Affinity, Arts and Culture Trust and Nine Nine Production.

The Maestro, McCoy Mrubata and Mark Hauser with Paul Hanmer, Thembinkosi Mavimbela and Bernic Boikanyo will be live at Soweto Theatre on the 25th of February. Swiss saxophone player Mark Hauser and South African saxophone player McCoy Mrubata were introduced to each other in 2000 by prolific sound engineer and booking agent Mark Roth during McCoy’s month’s stay in Basel, Switzerland. The two struck a rapport on contact.

An Evening with Samething Soweto, this is an exclusive series of one night only performance with South Africa`s most talented vocalist accompanied by their bands. The evenings are tailored to showcase vocalists in their best light, allowing audiences the opportunity to enjoy an up and close performance by their favourite singer...for the month of love, on the 25th of February we will present, Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba, popularly known as Samthing Soweto. He is a talented musician from Soweto and he started his career with the popular Acapella group, The Soil.

We then close the weekends festivities with Kasi Movie nights, a mobile cinema experience renowned for showcasing locally produced feature films, on the 26th of February we will be screening, The Hangman, starring Khulu Skenjana, Thato Dhladla, Lerato Mvelase and Mxolisi Matlabe. The film is set in the gallows Pretoria in 1989 about family secret that destroyed a son`s love for his father and his journey to finding out the truth....

Soweto Theatre is a buzz of entertainment every last weekend of the month with live DJ’s who play at the trendy Stages Bar which is open all weekend. So pop by for a show, or just pop by, but do come and spend some time at Soweto Theatre!
