Implementation of the 2012/2013 Property Rates tariffs
Property rates are levied in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act no 6 of 2004 (MPRA), based on the on the market value of a property. The City, through its Property Rates Policy, determines categories of properties which should be rated. A separate rate (tariff) in the Rand is being proposed for each category of property listed in the Policy. The City applies a concept of differential rating which indicates that the rate in the Rand is not constant across categories of property
