The City of Johannesburg adopted its new long term transport plan, launched during Transport Month October 2013, the "Strategic Integrated Transport Plan Framework" (SITPF) sets out the City's transport vision and strategic thrusts that will enable a developmental realization of the City's long term vision set out in the 2040 Growth and Development Strategy.

Transport is the backbone of the City of Johannesburg's economy and plays a significant role in addressing the fragmented spatial form of the City as well as the realization of inclusive economic growth through Transit Oriented Development.
