Johannesburg Water is currently experiencing challenges with water supply to our Hursthill, Brixton and Crosby systems due to below average inflow of water into the system, thus the reservoirs and towers are currently sitting at very low levels. Rand Water, our bulk water supplier is currently investigating the matter. We are aware that areas supplied from these systems are without water.
Johannesburg Water is currently communicating with Rand Water to mitigate the challenges of the low inflow levels into the reservoirs. Alternative water supply in the form of water tankers have been made available for residence as well as critical areas such as the Helen Joseph Hospital and Rahima Moosa Hospital. Customers in lower lying areas will receive water quicker, while those in higher areas may still have no water or poor pressure. We will continue to supply water through tanks and roaming trucks. Our teams will be opening hydrants to remove air. We thank customers for their patience. 2. Stretford Ext 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. There is a burst pipe at Stretford Ext 9 which affect water supply to the area. Team will be closing supply line in order to attend to the burst pipe. The closure will create no water to low pressure in the following areas and surroundings. Time of completion is not yet known as water is not closed. Lombardy, Alexandra, Kew and surrounds Over the weekend , Johannesburg Water was attending to a faulty valve before the inlet of the Randjieslaagte Reservoir which affected water supply to the areas fed by the reservoir. This morning Rand Water will be isolating supply to the reservoir as the 600mm valve needs to be replaced. The depot is sourcing the relevant material at present and draining the line to prepare for excavation. Once the line is drained, the team will commence with the work. Additional jojos and roaming trucks will be supplying water at critical sites. Residents can get updated information on the Johannesburg Water social media pages. 2.
