Over the next few months the City of Johannesburg will start preparations to regionalise its municipal billing.
Currently, the City bills according to a portions model. The challenge with this approach is that billing happens randomly and in multiple regions, placing enormous pressure on the meter-reading process; and subsequent billing.
The aim of the regionalisation project is to improve the overall billing so that ratepayers:
- are billed according to the region they live in;
- meters are read regionally;
- choose a due date between the 15th and 28th of each month.
