15/02/2017: Swift action by Joburg Water: Repairs to burst water pipe in Northriding complete
15 February 2017
Thanks to swift action by Joburg Water, repairs to the burst pipe in Northriding have been completed.

Workers from a construction company who are busy with infrastructure replacement for Rand Water in Washington Drive, Northriding, damaged a 700mm steel diameter bulk supply pipeline on Monday evening which supplies the Randburg Reservoirs.

As a result Northriding and surrounding areas such as Bryanston, Ferndale, Blackheath and Bordeaux were without water for two days.

Randburg Reservoir supply Linden Reservoir 1, Linden Reservoir 2, Linden Tower, Blairgowrie Reservoir, Kensingtong Reservoir B and Kensington Tower.

The damage to the pipeline was severe and three pipe lengths had to be replaced which resulted in an estimated time of 72 hours for restoring water.

Yesterday morning Linden Tower and Kensington Tower ran dry and by yesterday afternoon Linden Reservoir 1’s supply also became depleted.

However, due to repairs being complete, reservoirs have started filling up and water should be fully restored by 17h00 today.

I commend Joburg Water for their efforts to serve the residents of this City as quickly and as effectively as possible. I would also like to apologise to affected residents for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience over the past two days.

We kindly request that residents log a call if their water supply has not been restored by 17h00.

Water tankers have been placed in the following areas:

• Cnr. Anchor and Chester-Bryanston Ext.5
• Cnr. Conduit and Westview-O Summit
• Cnr. Kays and Cypress-Bryanston Ext.3
• Cnr.Highview and West-Ferndale Ext. 29
• Cnr. Speldekussing and Serruna-Ferndale Ext.6
• Bright Water Commons-Republic Road-Ferndale
• Cnr. Hammer and Standard Close-Strijdom Park
• Cnr. Sterling and Fabriek-Strijdom Park
• Cnr. Milne and Daniel-Bryanbrink
• Ferndale High School-Milne Road-Kensington B
• Medicross clinic- done last night-
• Westview Park-Vandia Grove
• Cnr. Sirdar and Abington- Kensington B
• In Blackwood Street- Bryanston Ext.3
• Republic and Silverpine (sasol garage)
• Cnr Bramfisher Drive and First street (BP garage)
• Dukes and Beatrice str at the Spar (Windsor)
• Cnr Republic and Judges at the Engen garage

I also call on all residents who are not experiencing water outages to reduce their water consumption so as to avoid a rapid decline in available water supply. Level-2 water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to.

Level-2 water restrictions means that residents are required:

a) not to water and irrigate their gardens from 06:00 and 18:00 every day;
b) to only use hand held hosepipes or bucket/watering cans;
c) not to fill their swimming pools with municipal water; and
d) not to use hosepipes to wash their cars, paved areas, etc.

We urge consumers to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87.
