All the summer merriment at Joburg City Theatres Print E-mail

Joburg City Theatres consisting of Joburg Theatre, Soweto Theatre and Roodepoort Theatre are proud to showcase their exciting festive productions. All three theatres are the hotspots of fun and entertainment this summer.

The Soweto Theatre, situated in Jabulani, south of Johannesburg is paying homage to the late great Gibson Kente, a legendary composer, playwright, producer, writer and an acclaimed father of township theatre. Kente will be remembered at Soweto Theatre from the 7th to 17th December. The late Kente has been lauded by many accomplished and celebrated stars for impacting and shaping their careers, the likes of Brenda Fassie, Darlington Michaels, Sello Maake KaNcube and Mbongeni Ngema, among others.

The Roodepoort Theatre is celebrating the late king of pop, the iconic Michael Jackson from the 6th to the 17th of December. International impersonator; Michael Jonathan portrays Michael Jackson to perfection. A wholesome show for the whole family, this production is definitely the one to watch. The production is staged in association with All Events Africa. Shows start from 8pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends, with tickets ranging from R100 to R120.

The much talked-about pantomime, Pinocchio starts at the Joburg Theatre from

12th November to 30th December. It has sold over 30 000 tickets already! The pantomime stars brilliant stars such as Tobie Conje, Khanyi Nokwe alongside Chi Mhende and veteran actress Ilse Klink. The show is written and directed by Janice Honeyman who celebrates her 30th pantomime.

Some of the most remarkable shows the Joburg City Theatres has showcased include: Gone Native, House of Truth, The Tenors, A Passage to Bollywood, Tartuffe, The Manhattan Brother's Tribute and Kakadu among others.

"Joburg City Theatres takes immense pride in offering supreme entertainment, promoting storytelling and preserving African heritage through the arts. This summer will be an absolute game-changer, we are definitely ending the year with a bang. Where we countdown to the new year at Soweto Theatre by hosting Soweto in Colours on December, 31", commented Nomsa Mazwai, General Manager of Soweto Theatre. .

The Joburg City Theatres boasts an exceptional catering and hospitality department open to public and private bookings including the renowned Stages Restaurants at all three theatres geared to cater for any pallet.

The theatre gig rig truck is also available for bookings if you are having an outdoor event.
