FINAL LETTERS OF DEMAND SENT IN ERROR TO SOUTHERN SUBURB RESIDENTS WHO HAD REGISTERED FOR THE MUNICIPAL SERVICES SUBSIDY
Residents in the City's southern suburbs – including Soweto, Eldorado Park, Ennerdale and Riverlea - received Final Letters of Demand from the City's Revenue Department in October/November in error.

According to Department spokesperson Mandy Jean Woods the error occurred when enhancements to the City's revenue IT system were made resulting in the letters being sent to residents who had no arrears as many of these residents have already registered for the Municipal Services Subsidy scheme which includes the writing off of all arrear debt.

"We wish to apologise to our customers in these areas for the error and want to assure them that we have rectified the IT error. We also wish express our appreciation for the customers who brought this to our attention," she said.

Woods said residents who were registered for the Municipal Services Subsidy should ignore the Final Letter of Demand they have received. "Obviously this letter is not intended for those customers. However, customers in these areas who do have arrears on their statements are encouraged to make their payments in full as soon as possible. We also want to invite these customers to come and make arrangements to pay off the arrears by visiting any regional office," says Woods.

The next statements to be sent to customers in these areas will be corrected and, where applicable, will reflect the write-offs tied to the registration for the Municipal Services Subsidy.

Customers are reminded that they can pay for their municipal accounts at any Easy Pay paypoint (like Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, etc), at any SA Post Office and any major bank's branch, ATM machine or internet banking site. Council paypoints can also be used as can debit order facilities.
