Park-and-ride-service for Bafana Bafana match
Soccer enthusiasts attending Saturday's clash between Bafana Bafana and the USA will be transported for free from park-and-ride facilities in the city to the Ellis Park match venue. City of Johannesburg spokesperson, Kgamanyane Maphologela, has called on soccer fans to make use of this free service. "This is the safest, quickest and most convenient way to get to the match and back to your vehicle. Through this you can avoid the huge traffic jams usually associated with big matches," he says. Park-and-ride facilities will be available at two venues:
Bezuidenhout Valley Park in Marcia Street – with a taxi shuttle service operating to and from Ellis Park;
The Wits West Campus in Enoch Sontonga Street where Metrobus will pick up and deliver spectators in comfort and safety.
Adequate and secure parking will be available at both these venues at a cost of R20 but the ride to and from the stadium will be free of charge.
This initiative is a joint partnership between the city of Johannesburg's Transportation Department and the South African Rail Commuter Corporation. A scheduled train service will also run from the following train stations – Naledi, Ikwezi, Dube, Braamfontein and Park Station – at a cost of R10. Train no 2215 will depart from Naledi station at 12h40 and, following the match train no 2218 will depart from Doornfontein station at 17h45. Spectators will be able to park their cars at the train station for R10 and tight security will be provided. Tickets will be available at all the sites.
