Johannesburg Housing Department and Thubelisha and Habitat for Humanity Forge partnership
The City of Johannesburg Housing Department together with Thubelisha and Habitat for Humanity have forged a partnership whose primary aim is to promote service delivery, enhance the spirit of Ubuntu and encourage team cohesion among the staff members of these organisations for the benefit of the communities.
The first activity of this partnership is a joint housing project taking place in Diepsloot from the 11-15 June 2007. The project will deliver ten houses under the theme "Youth for Housing". The actual building of the houses will be carried out by staff members from the three organisations, members of the community and local Councillors.
This will culminate in a hand-over ceremony that will be graced by senior officials and politicians from the City as well as Senior officials from Thubelisha and the UN Habitat for Humanity. Other invited guests include the following, the Chairperson of the Housing Portfolio committee - Gauteng Legislature, members of the Mayoral Committee, members of the Housing Portfolio Committee - City of Joburg, Councillors and senior managers from the Gauteng Department of Housing department.
The beneficiaries for this effort are people who have been living in informal settlements and the three organisations are making it possible for them to get a brick and mortar structure that ensures security of tenure and reliable shelter.
NB: More details about the exact location and the directions will be communicated in due course.
