​Invitation to participate in an environment summit

The City of Johannesburg is commemorating World Environment Week in June with a range of very exciting activities. The main purpose of the week's celebrations is to:

Encourage people to become active participants in sustainable living,
Promote awareness and an understanding that communities play a central role in changing attitudes towards environmental issues,
Develop partnerships that will ensure that we all enjoy a better quality of life.
The International Theme for this year's World Environment Week is around Climate Change, with the slogan - "Melting Ice - a hot topic". The City had adopted a theme of its own to make it more relevant: Climate Change: A call for local action!

As part of these activities, the City is hosting an environment summit on the 6th June 2007. You are hereby invited to participate as an audience member on the day in the dialogue regarding specific themes. The identified themes for discussion include aspects of climate change, energy efficiency, biodiversity conservation, pollution and waste management. It is the intention to use the outcome of the discussions as input in the development of the City's Climate Change Response Strategy planned for the next financial year.
