It’s a women’s world this August

Hundreds of emerging women entrepreneurs and successful businesswomen will converge at Uncle Tom’s Hall Maseko Street in Orlando West this Saturday 25 August 2007.

These women from all seven Regions of the City of Joburg will not be coming together to natter and gossip but to share their experiences as business women as part of Women’s month celebrations.

To ensure this happens, the City has invited agencies such as Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, Department of Trade and Industry, funding institutions Khula and Umsombovu to share information on best business practices and ways of accessing credit.

Several presentations on procurement, labour issues, business opportunities and computer literacy will be held. After the Executive Mayor Councillor Amos Masondo delivers his keynote address, lunch will be served and then it is back to a series of workshops.

However it will not just be business as usual because participants will be treated to fashion shows, art, pottery and gardening exhibitions.

During August 2006 the City’s Community Development Department held a series of consultative workshops on its Women Development Strategy with 1600 women.

Out of this ensued the Women Development Strategy incorporating the Skills Development Programme to support women entrepreneurs.
