Park-and-ride-service for 46664 concert

Concert goers attending Saturday’s 46664 concert in honour of Nelson Mandela will be transported from park-and-ride facilities in the city to the Ellis Park venue.

City of Johannesburg spokesperson, Kgamanyane Maphologela, says a strong crowd is expected at the concert to raise awareness about HIV/Aids that will also be broadcast to global TV audiences.

“We want to urge fans to make use of the park and ride services. This is the safest, quickest and most convenient way to get to the concert and back to your vehicle. Through this you can avoid the huge traffic jams usually associated with big events,” he says.
Park-and-ride facilities will be available at two venues:
·    Bezuidenhout Valley Park in Marcia Street (Cyrildene);
·    The Wits West Campus in Enoch Sontonga Avenue;

Adequate and secure parking will be available at both these venues at a cost of R20 but the ride to and from the stadium will be free of charge.

Gates will open at 09h00 on Saturday and a shuttle service will operate from 11h00 to 24h00 at 30 minute intervals between the park-and-ride parks and the concert venue. Tickets for the parking will be available at the gates of the park-and-ride facilities and security has been arranged to guard the parked vehicles.

A scheduled train service will also run from the following train stations – Naledi, Ikwezi, Dube, Braamfontein and Park Station- with the final drop off at Doornfontein station.

Mr Maphologela says the park-and-ride proved to be a success during the recent soccer match between Bafana Bafana and the USA and he trusts that spectators for the 46664 concert will also make use of the facilities.
