2009-06-19: Warning to customers
JOHANNESBURG Water (JW), the water and sanitation service provider for the City of Johannesburg wishes to advise customers that our banking details for water and sewerage service payments have not changed as claimed.
A hoax email with the City of Johannesburg and Gauteng Provincial logos addressed to unsuspecting customers with a picture of the Executive Mayor, Clr Amos Masondo is making its round claiming that banking details for water and sewerage payments have changed. This is not true and customers are advised not to deposit or make payments into the fake account.
The correct banking details for Johannesburg Water remain as follows:

Customers are urged to ignore this mail or any other related pamphlets disguised as official correspondence from the entity or the City of Johannesburg. This is clearly the work of individuals or parties trying to defraud unsuspecting customers and this kind of actions are not only malicious and unethical but criminal and a disservice to residents of this city.
JW and the City of Johannesburg is to launch an investigation into the origin of the fake correspondence and residents are also encouraged to make use of a Tipp Off Anonymous service on 0800 1500 00 should they wish to report the culprits.
