2009-11-12: City of Joburg International Trade Mission signs MOU with Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam


The City of Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor, Cllr Amos Masondo and a delegation of Members of the Mayoral Committee including senior managers yesterday successfully signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The mayor is currently on a ten day visit to South East Asia as part of the City of Joburg’s International Trade Mission.

The main objective of this MOU is to cooperate and partner on projects that are aimed at bettering the quality of lives of citizens of both cities. An investment seminar is also currently taking place in the city of Ho Chi Minh as part of implementing and strengthening the existing MOU between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the South African Chamber of Commerce.

The mayor’s delegation is still to visit the Greater Municipality of Mumbai in India, Shanghai City in the People’s Republic of China and Saint Petersburg in Russia.

The City is committed to improving its performance by building international relations in order to learn and possibly adapt what other cities in the world are doing in similar areas of service delivery.
