2010-04-01: Targeted Immunisation Campaign 2010  

THE City of Johannesburg Health Department will be embarking on two national immunization campaigns for H1N1 influenza and for Polio and Measles.

The first immunization campaign will be against H1N1 for people who are at high risk and will be as follows: 

Phase one: 06 April – 02 May 2010, targeting children under the age of 15 years attending Antiretroviral (ARV) clinics. 
Phase two will be from 03rd – 31st May 2010 for pregnant women, patients attending specialist heart and lung disease clinics. 
The second immunization campaign will be against Polio and Measles and will be as follows: 

The first round will be from 12th – 23rd May 2010 vaccinations against Polio for all children under five years of age and Measles vaccine (age group six months to the age of 15 years old) to those children who did not receive a measles vaccine in the mass measles campaign in 2009. 
The second round, between 24 – 28 May 2010, will be for children under the age of five who will be given their second dose of the polio vaccine, Vitamin A supplements and deworming medication. 
Parents and caregivers are urged to sign consent forms for children to be immunized. The immunizations given during the national campaign does not replace the routine immunizations.
