2010-04-23: Official launch of Bazokhula day care centre in Lehae township
The City of Johannesburg in partnership with the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) will be launching a new Bazokhula Day Care Centre in Lehae Township in region G, South of Johannesburg. The crèche is being donated by SANZAF to the community of Lehae.
The donor SANZAF (est 1974) is registered both as a Non-Profit Organisation (007 – 160) and a Public Benefit Organisation (93000 – 1714), their projects and services cover the entire spectrum of social-development work from poverty alleviation to development and education.
The new Bazokhula Day Care Centre is the major undertaking by SANZAF and it was funded entirely through voluntary donations and exclusively from members of the South African Muslim community.
The centre has got 4 classrooms, 2 ablution blocks and an administration office with a kitchen, store room and a sick room. The centre replaces the shipping container and zozo currently used as a crèche. In 2008, the organization raised approximately R3 million for the Igugulethu Primary School in neighbouring Vlakfontein. SANZAF is also negotiating with their sister organizations that specialize in gardening and medical related services to provide support services to the centre and the surrounding community.
The new School was officially opened by Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Aver Surty, the School serves more than 1000 learners.
The brand new Bazokhula Day Care has been completed and the official opening ceremony is on Tuesday, 27 April 2010, Freedom Day, at 10h00 in the morning.
