2011-01-27: City service delivery campaign hits Joburg malls

THE City of Johannesburg will be having a public interactive mall campaign at Diepsloot Mall, on Saturday, 29 January, 2011 from 10am to 3pm.

The main objective of the campaign is to create a platform whereby the City can engage and interact with shoppers in an informal environment with a focus on improving the City's customer service delivery.

The mall campaign activation which will visit every region of the City over the next two months is driven by the City's Marketing Unit in collaboration with other City Municipal Owned Entities and departments such as the Johannesburg Metro Police, Emergency Management Services, Joburg Roads Agency and Joburg Water.

Each participating department will have its own exhibition stall with key information made accessible to shoppers. Representatives will be available to speak to people about any City issue or query the public may have. The benefit of such a campaign is a collaborative participation by the City's departments, intensified marketing efforts, increased publicity and profiling for the City's services.

The approach of the campaign will be drawn towards safety by the participating City's departments during the summer festive seasons, drowning is the leading cause of flood-related deaths in rainy seasons, most occurring during flash-floods.

"It's hard to believe, but even six inches of moving water can knock you off your feet! People should be very careful, use a pole or stick to test the ground before walking across any flooded areas where you cannot see the ground," said Percy Morokane, Joburg Emergency Spokesperson.

The participating departments will outline any service delivery issues on a one on one basis with the members of the public, in order to bring improved service to the people and the public is provided with an opportunity to engage with City's officials in a relaxed environment.
