2011-08-15: Joburg's essential services operational
THE City of Johannesburg has reported that its essential services were operating at full capacity today.
This is after a national municipal workers strike by the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) started today.
Work attendance figures were still been consolidated at different departments and Municipal Owned Entities (MOEs) for submission to the SA Local Government Association (SALGA) who are consolidating the strike statistics.
So far no challenges were reported at various departments and Municipal Owned Entities, which includes Pikitup, Joburg Water, Metrobus, City Power, Revenue and Customers Services. The situation at the City's clinics was positive and all clinics are open and operating
We anticipate that we will be able to handle all customer issues, and confirm that we have contingency plans in place.
"We would like to take this opportunity to remind our customers that in addition to using the customer service centers to pay their municipal accounts, they can also pay via any EasyPay outlets (like Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Shoprite Checkers, etc); any SA Post Office and via any bank's internet website, branch or ATM."
