2011-11-10: The JMPD's 1st Annual Metro Awards
JOHANNESBURG'S finest Metro Police officers will be recognized for their service at the city's first annual metro awards on Friday, 11 November 2011.
The awards will be presented by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg, Clr Matshidiso Mfikoe at a function to be held at 18h00 in Gold Reef Casino Conference Centre, Johannesburg.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has about 2600 Law Enforcement Officers who are passionate in executing their duties on a daily basis to make sure that Johannesburg residents are safe at all times.
The work of JMPD officers often focuses on dealing with crime and violence. But they also play a crucial role in ensuring safety at individual and community levels. This includes managing road safety and enforcement where either motorists or pedestrians are negligent of the law.
The effective response and high visibility of JMPD Law Enforcement Officers contributes to the reduction of crime and road accidents in Johannesburg and reflects positively on service delivery.
JMPD officers also play an important role in enforcing the City's Municipal By-Laws, educating street traders on how to run their businesses without obstructing pedestrians, and ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
A total of 18 awards will be presented on Friday night honoring JMPD members in different categories of duties in a prestigious year.
