05-11-2012: Joburg hosts Sector Council for 260 senior citizens
05 November 2012The first Sector Council for senior citizens will be held by the City of Johannesburg’s Legislature on Friday 9 November 2012.
The Speaker of Council, councilor Conny Bapela will host 260 senior citizens under the theme “Joburg celebrates longevity, prosperity and wisdom” from 9am to 2pm at the Metro Centre council chamber. Each of the City’s 130 Wards will be represented by a male and female senior citizen.
This Senior Citizens Sector Council is aimed at encouraging senior citizens to take part in decision making and legislative processes, provide a platform for them to share experiences and challenges that face them and acknowledge the valuable contribution that they have made in their communities and society in general.
Several key people have been invited including member of the executive committee for Agriculture, Rural and Social Development, honourable Nandi Manyathula-Khoza, a representative from the South African Older Person’s Forum as well as member of the mayoral committee for Health and Social Development, councilor Nonceba Molwele.
