2012-11-23: Joburg Mayor to host a prayer service in Ivory Park

The Executive Mayor Mpho Parks Tau will at 3pm on Monday, 26 November 2012 host a Prayer Session at North Hall in Ivory Park with the Faith-based Community Groups in a bid to galvanize community support following recently at least ten incidents where residents were swept by water after heavy rains.

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, supported by the South African Police Services (SAPS) have so far not succeeded to track down a 10-year old girl who is the latest to have been swept by raging water and carried through the stormwater last month.

Police sniffers dogs were also enlisted to search the 20km stretch of the Kaalspruit stream, which flows through Kaalfontein but even this effort did not yield desired results.

Clr Parks Tau and Clr Nonceba Molwele who is the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development recently visited the family of the missing girl and committed to do all what they can to assist in finding the missing child.

In another incident, two children were killed after a 16-year-old speeding in a car mowed them down while they were playing in Kaalfontein, Midrand a month ago. Four children aged nine to 12 years were playing on the pavement when the teenager in a car ploughed into them.

The Ivory Park Taxi Association has offered free transport to locals who will be attending the Prayer Meeting while the Mojo music group based at the same street where the missing girl lives, provide music.

A JMPD and SAPS Band will also provide music and parade the streets of Ivory Park in support of the event.

Clr Parks Tau will be accompanied by councilors and the community members.

The prayer session will take place as follows:

Date:    Monday, 26 November 2012
Time:   15h00
Venue:  Ivory Park North Community Hall
Corner Freedom Drive & Tokoloho Street, Ivory Park
