28-08-2010: City of Johannesburg donates 31 vehicles to NGOs
Thirty one Non-Governmental Organisations from across Johannesburg are proud owners of refurbished minibus vehicles thanks to the innovative approach of the
City of Johannesburg. These mini bus vehicles will assist NGOs to better provide services to communities in the fields they offer services in.
Rea Vaya has always been hailed as a transformation project and with this donation has created another mechanism to serve communities. These minibus
vihicles were part of the 585 vehicles that were handed in by prospective shareholders of the bus operating company, Piotrans. The majority of the 585
vehicles were either auctioned or scrapped. Thirty one of the vehicles were either too new to be scrapped or were not successfully auctioned. The City
together with Piotrans, felt that deserving organisations within the NGO sector would derive benefit from the donation of vehicles. South African Taxi
Finance and Provantage have also contributed to this initiative.
All NGOs receiving the vehicles have signed Service Level Agreements with the City setting out the conditions under which the vehicles can be used.
A list of the NGO’s receiving the vehicles is attached.
