On Friday, 8th August at the Women’s Goal, Constitution Hill a dialogue called BARS: The Price of Freedom will be hosted to commemorate the old female prisoners who courageously took a stand in 1956, as well as to speak to the ex-wardresses who will give their version of the experience on the other side of the Prison BARS. Hosted by controversial Power FM Producer, Zamantungwa Khumalo. Zama is passionate about African development, women empowerment and entrepreneurship. Well renowned artist, writer and designer Ntsiki Mawzai will perform Poetry in celebration of this glorious High Tea event. BARS: The Price of Freedom will be hosted from 11h00–15h00 at R500 per head/R4500 per table.

On Women’s Day, Saturday 9th August the Nation is invited to march for free from 08h00–11h00, starting at the Constitutional Square, Constitution Hill. The Colours of a Woman March will be led by artists, politicians, businesswomen, women, men and children of South Africa. The March is aimed at recreating the Women’s March of 1956 with 5,000 people, demonstrating unity and support of our Nation in raising awareness for the following five causes speaking to the plight of Young Women:

Abuse of all forms: Yellow;

Menstrual Dignity: Purple;

Basic Education: Blue;

Human Trafficking: Green and

Teenage Pregnancy: Pink

A petition will be signed by all attendees and handed to the Justices of the Constitutional Court, as key stakeholders presiding over the highest court in the Land.

The day ends of with the Colours of a Woman Festival from 11h00-17h00 at a fee of R150 (R100 if you participated in the March), which will combine a colourful mixture of the arts, culture and heritage of women, though platforms for women, by women of:

Arts, craft and fashion market

Organisations that represent women’s causes

Food stalls

Music & live performances

All of this will complemented by a music concert from 11h00-17h00 at the Women’s Gaol to allow women and men to showcase their talents.

“Just as there are many colours in a spectrum, and in turn millions when you look at the different shades of each colour, we acknowledge that there are as many ways to express yourself as a woman as there are women in the world. The Annual Colours of a Woman Weekend Initiative is just one of the shades that we can use to Celebrate, Liberate and Empower women and men of South Africa.” said Phindile Dhlamini, Managing Director of Gracefully Consulting when asked to explain their intentions.
