10-02-2014: Mega Blitz for Mshenguville Street and Skate Park in Mofolo, Soweto
Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo, the custodians for greening in the City of Johannesburg will be out in full force in our on-going "Mega Blitz" campaigns.
The three-day mega-blitz starts at 08h00 until 14h30 on Tuesday, 11 February 2014 and ends on 13 February, where approximately 350 workers will be abuzz cutting back overgrown grass, cleaning verges and sidewalks, litter picking, tree pruning and removal of dead branches.
City Parks has identified Zulu and Elias Motsoaledi Streets in Mofolo in Soweto as well as the Skate Park for refurbishment.
City Parks & Zoos' Mega Blitz is an initiative designed to speed up service delivery and to tackle backlogs caused by heavy rains which accelerates the growth of long grass, shrubs and trees. It has been rolled out in all Joburg regions.
Lunga Ncapai, City Parks' Manager for Region D, said the utility would continue identifying areas of concern that need attention through the blitz campaigns.
"The mega blitz campaigns visit various wards to identify areas that need attention to ensure that we keep Joburg well maintained.
"We are doing our best to curb the backlog of the past months as a result of heavy rains so we could not cover all the areas," said Ncapai.
Johannesburg City Parks are encouraging communities to be part and parcel of this initiative and to take ownership of their neighbourhoods.
ENDS.
