17-03-2014: Pikitup boss suspended

The City of Johannesburg today confirms that Mr Suren Maharaj, the Pikitup Financial Director, is now Acting Manager of Pikitup, following the suspension of its Managing Director, Ms Amanda Nair.

Nair has been suspended and formally charged – in summary, on matters relating to supply chain management and Municipal Finance Management Act, pending a disciplinary enquiry instituted against her.
Specific details of the charges levelled against Ms Nair cannot be made public at this stage in pursuance of protecting the rights of both Pikitup and the employee.
The enquiry confirms the City’s commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance as well as to the protection of the right to fair employment practices extended to its employees.
Ms Nair has been notified to attend a pre-disciplinary enquiry to be held on 27 March 2014.
