City of Joburg's preliminary response to release of Public Protector's reports
The City of Johannesburg welcomes the release of the Public Protector’s two investigation reports into alleged maladministration in relation to city by-laws, hijacked buildings and the interpretation of certain provisions of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO).
The City of Johannesburg has not yet received the Public Protector’s reports which were presented earlier this afternoon. A detailed statement in response to the findings and recommendations as contained in the reports will be issued after the City has received and studied them.
The City has, however, given the Public Protector its full cooperation throughout the investigations.
The Public Protector investigations follow alleged maladministration by the City in relation to the failure to comply with city by-laws; the Constitution regarding hijacked buildings and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s interpretation of certain provisions of the AARTO Act, 1998.
