​23-09-2014: City of Jo’burg hosts African Traditional Medicine Celebration


The Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Health and Social Development in the City of Johannesburg, Clr Nonceba Molwele, will host the African Traditional Medicine Celebration on Friday, 26 September 2014. 

The celebration, themed “The Collaboration between Western and Traditional Medicine”, forms part of the various activities undertaken by the City of Johannesburg’s Traditional Health Practitioners Forum. 

The City's Traditional Health Practitioners Forum was launched in 2010 by the City's Department of Health. This sector assists the City in the dissemination of health information as well as HIV/AIDS education and de-stigmatising the disease.

The City’s Health Officials and Traditional Healers will share their experiences on research and development of traditional medicine and strategies for safe use of traditional medicine. 

The aim is to ensure wide circulation and publicity of the national law on traditional medicine, understand progress made in regulation and institutionalization of traditional medicine in health care sector.
