07/10/2015: West Street to come alive with Freedom Ride and Road Safety Family Day

On Sunday, 11 October 2015 from 09h00 until 16:00 the City of Johannesburg will be hosting a Road Family Day, as part of the EcoMobility World Festival activities at West Street in Sandton to create awareness about road safety.
The free of charge family day will be filled with a number of activities including live music performance by Zahara and Maleh.

Zahara shot to fame after her hit track Loliwe set the music charts ablaze and earned her a slew of awards. She will share the stage with Maleh who began her musical journey in the heart of the majestic mountain kingdom of Lesotho where she was born and raised.

The line-up includes KG, DJ Tibos, Moji and Bob Mabena from Kaya FM. Various road safety organisations will be doing promotions and handing out prizes.

The family day, follows another City of Johannesburg and EcoMobility World Festival event, the biannual Freedom Ride. This event will begin at 7:00 am on Sunday when cyclists will set off from Rivonia Road, outside Gautrain station towards Hillbrow, Yeoville and then back to Sandton via Louis Botha.

The aim of Freedom Ride is to celebrate freedom of the streets and promote cycling for commuters, healthy styles and recreation throughout the year.

At the EcoMobility Mayor’s Imbizo held on Tuesday, 06 October 2015, international speakers including from London, Nairobi and San Francisco emphasised that the best form of safety is having streets teaming with life and people switching to public transport.

The park and ride service will be available from Innersfree Park; Brightwater Commons; Randburg Square; Cresta and Rosebank.
