09/04/2015:Stakeholder and Public Consultation for Eco-Mobility World Festival to be Held at Sandton in October

The City of Johannesburg’s Transport Department and the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) - an its implementation agency for the legacy projects – will during the first three weeks in April 2015 undertake a stakeholder consultation and information gathering exercise for the EcoMobility Festival in and around the Sandton area.
During this period every property owner along the affected streets will be contacted to collect information and understand concerns about both the proposed streets to be closed in October 2015 and the legacy project of transforming West and Maude Street and the public transport loop along Rivonia Road, Fredman Drive and Fifth Streets.

The information collected will include how many parking bays the affected buildings have, how many people work in these buildings, what are present transport arrangements and where do they come from or go to each day.

Members of the public who want to check whether they are affected or indicate how they are affected and want to be further consulted, will also have an opportunity to be engaged.

At the end of the consultation process a comprehensive Transport Festival Plan will be developed. This plan will outline the following:

• Final proposed details of roads to be closed;
• Alternative public transport to be provided including through Metrobus, Gautrain, mini bus taxis and Park and Rides in the surrounding areas which could be served by tuk tuks, electric bikes etc.;
• Proposed plans for deliveries, waste removal, emergencies etc.; as well as
• A Signage plans.

The Transport Festival Plan to be completed by the end of May and during June 2015, will be subject to further stakeholder consultations. Public meetings will be held to present the final draft plan, hear outstanding concerns and suggestions and make further amendments.

The final plan will be signed off by the City’s political leadership at the end of June 2015, leaving July to September 2015 for the making of all the necessary arrangements including extensive information sharing to all residents, workers and tenants in Sandton.
