10/06/2015: Kliptown small business got a boost of more than R1.5million

Kliptown businesses are to benefit from more than R1,5 million for remedial planned maintenance which includes painting of boundary walls and existing fences for the Kliptown Golf Course development.
This is as a result of Jozi@Work, a mayoral initiative aimed at empowering ordinary Johannesburg residents and creating thousands of job opportunities in response to the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality. The programme is designed to create an opportunity for communities to

partner with the City in the delivery of municipal services in their own neighbourhoods.

Says MMC Housing, Cllr Dan Bovu, “As part of the Jozi@work programme, cooperatives or micro businesses will receive mentorship and skills transfer from larger contracting entities. Ten co-ops or micro business from the region will be appointed to complete the work at Kliptown Golf Course, and the renovations are expected to create at least 50 jobs. Work starts this month and is expected to be complete in July”.

In addition, Joscho has allocated cleaning packages worth R3 million to 24 Joburg micro businesses over the past six months. A further R3 million in cleaning packages will be issued during the coming six months which will be allocated to another 24 small businesses.

Joshco’s Kliptown Golf Course Estate, which is part of the Greater Kliptown Urban Re-development Programme, offers more than 1410 rental housing units at between R600 and R3397 per month. It is well situated and features a live and work model allowing residents to work out of their homes or establish businesses that capitalise on passing trade.

This secure development is situated in the heart of Kliptown, surrounded by a taxi rank, bustling local business, offices and a museum. Joscho provided 24-hour access control, secure parking, safe play areas for children as well as a greened environment to ensure a greater quality of life for the tenants.
