13/08/2015: Alexandra Youth Advisory Centre Official Launch
The City of Johannesburg Region E will, on Friday 14 August 2015, officially launch the Alexandra Youth Advisory Centre (YAC). The launch event will commence at 09:00 am at the Multipurpose Community Centre, Cnr 8th Avenue and Alfred Nzo, Alexandra.
The Youth Advisory Centre is established to address the challenges such as unemployment, lack of skills, and lack of efficient resources which young people are faced with in Alexandra. Through the advisory centre, Young people are advised and given information on employment opportunities, skills development and further education and training opportunities.
The established partnerships have already yielded positive achievements. The placement of unemployed youth of Alexandra on an internship programme in Region E, can be attributed to the database created through the Youth Advisory centre. Another previously unemployed group were employed by Khulisa Social Solutions & Domino’s pizza. The Social Development skills unit also placed other young people on a learnership programme.
Through the established centre, entrepreneurial programmes will also be in implemented to support young entrepreneurs to form and run their own businesses. PC Training & Business College provides free basic computer training classes and also assists the youth to compile their CVs. The Youth Advisory Centre launch will begin with a formal programme with an address by: Mothuphi Modiba: NYDA: Skills development and fighting unemployment; GEP Representative: Business Opportunities for Youth in Alexandra; Fiona Mainole: ENS Africa, Entrepreneur Empowering Laws; Mr. Bernard (Business development): Harambee, Vulindel’ejozi facilitated opportunities; facilitator; as well as Ms. Harriet Manamela: Opportunities in the arts.
An exhibitions will proceed at the various stalls where more information will be accessible to stakeholders. (Enclosed with list of exhibitors for the day).
