Re : Press Release

The City of Johannesburg through the office of MMC for Environment Infrastructure and Services Clr Matshidiso Mfikoe, together with City Power will switch on electricity supply to 340 shelters tomorrow at 10h00 in Princess Transit Camp, Roodepoort in the west of Johannesburg at a ceremony to mark the electrification of this temporary human settlement. A number of Streetlights have also been installed in this community.

Occupants of these dwellings have been moved from Princess Extension 22 in order to allow for a housing development to take place there where new houses are being built in the same area (Princess Extension 22).

The spin-offs of this electrification project for both City Power and customers of Princess Transit Camp and Extension 22 is that City of Johannesburg and City Power are able to minimize vandalism of electricity infrastructure and eliminate to some extent the severity of unlawful electricity connections in these areas.

This electrification coupled with installation of streetlights is ensuring that the community lives in a safer and consumer friendly environment.

Details of the ceremony are as follows:

Date: 19 August 2015

Time: 10h00 – 13h00

Venue: Princess Transit Camp, Roodepoort
