24/07/2015: Registration Open for World Congress on Healthy Ageing 2015
Registration is open for the second World Congress on Healthy Ageing (WCHA2015), to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 30 July to 2 August 2015.
The congress, themed 'Bridging the Ageing Divide’, offers a global forum for internationally renowned experts to address healthy ageing issues with a specific focus on how they apply to the African context.
The first World Congress on Healthy Ageing was held in Malaysia in 2012 and attracted 1 500 delegates. Dr Ryan Fuller, psycho-geriatrician and Scientific Chair of the congress, says the event will address all issues related to healthy ageing including managing non-communicable diseases, diet, strategies for healthy ageing and how technology will advance ageing solutions.
The WCHA2015 boasts a list of prestigious speakers that include Dr Yen Choo, molecular biologist and member of the UK Stem Cell Steering Committee, Prof Suresh Rattan, head of the Laboratory of Cellular Ageing of the Department of Molecular Biology at the Aarhus University in Denmark, Prof Bradley Wilcox, well-known physician-investigator in Geriatrics and Prof Melvyn Freeman, chief director for Non-Communicable Diseases at the National Department of Health.
The WCHA2015 organisers are advised by an international advisory panel of experts. Dr Fuller says that the congress will not only consist of high-level scientific discussion but will also include a programme of caregiver workshops and edutalks to be held parallel to the scientific programme. The programme includes cutting edge topics such as ’Safeguarding the older person’, ‘Key health determinants of successful ageing’ and ‘The importance of sexual health as you age’.
People who will benefit from the World Congress on Healthy Ageing include medical and healthcare professionals, academics, caregivers, legislators, community service personnel, city planners and people interested in the science of healthy ageing. Attendance to the scientific and caregiver sessions will provide an opportunity for health professionals to accumulate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points over and above providing an opportunity to network with global leading specialists in the medical field.
