The City of Johannesburg is set to host the two-day Mayoral Cup 2015 in conjunction with SAFA Johannesburg and all the Local Football Associations (Jhb) as part of closing the 39th Anniversary Commemoration of the Soweto Student Uprisings.
The tournament follows the successful inaugural Amos Masondo Games hosted last week at Marks Park in partnership with all the Sports Councils led by Jhb Sports Council. The Mayoral Cup will take place this Saturday, 27 June and 28 June at Eldorado Park Sports Ground, Extension 6.
Expected to grace the tournament is the leadership of the City. MMC for Community Development: Cllr. Chris Vondo said this tournament is the cornerstone for producing future stars that will represent this country at different international levels in partnership with football legends.
The tournament will feature teams for the under 17 Boys and Girls. The Mayoral Cup 2015 is a crucial platform that will see the realisation of 2022 SAFA Vision, and it is also a special feature of under 11 Boys and 10 Girls teams.
The City is extending an invite to all sports fans as this tournament promotes social cohesion, as we build and re-stich the City of Johannesburg into our heart’s desire as declared by the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Parks Tau.
