02/12/2016: Mayor extends condolences to the family of Everite Chauke

On the 22nd of November 2016 the body of a three year old girl was found along the Jukskei River. Following forensic testing it has been confirmed today that it is the body of Everite Chauke who went missing after last month’s flash floods in Alexandra.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the Chauke family for their tragic loss. No parent should ever have to bury their own child, and I cannot imagine anything more painful.

Everite was a three year old girl whose life was taken far too soon. I pray that the Chauke family can find some closure in the fact that their daughter has been found.

May the tragic loss of Everite be a call to action for us to find real solutions to the serious housing and infrastructure challenges we face that has rendered people vulnerable to this kind of disaster.
