04/02/2016: Co-operatives Amendment Act Awareness Workshops
The City of Johannesburg’s Department of Economic Development in partnership with the Department of Small Business Development will be conducting workshops for beneficiaries on the amendments to the co-operatives legislation.
These workshops will be held across the regions of Johannesburg from March to April 2016 (Attached are the Schedule of Workshops).
These workshops seek to introduce the Co-operatives Amendment Act No 6 of 2013. The amended legislation supersedes the Co-operatives Act No 14 of 2005 with the view of strengthening the co-operatives leadership, good governance and compliance to regulations as stipulated in the Co-operatives Constitution.
The objective of the workshops is to equip the existing and emerging beneficiaries with the relevant information pertaining to legislative prescripts and they will also focus on the process of development of support institutions such as Co-operatives Development Agency, Co-operatives Academy and Co-operatives Tribunal as proposed by the amended legislation.
Two hundred participants are anticipated to attend each workshop.
