06/10/2016: Pikitup's contigency plan on a national protected march by Cosatu
The Waste Management Company of the City of Johannesburg, Pikitup today announced that all its services (household refuse collection, recyclables, bulk, dailies and landfill sites) might be negatively impacted by the national protected march called by Cosatu to mark the International Day for a decent work on Friday (tomorrow), 07 October 2016.
We anticipate that the majority of Pikitup’s workforce who are members of South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) - a Cosatu affiliated union might heed the call to join the march tomorrow. Residents and business owners whose collection day falls on Friday, 07 October 2016 need to put out their waste as normal.
In case that waste is not collected tomorrow due to this march, Pikitup has put a contingency plan to ensure that this inconvenience is sorted out on Saturday, 08 October 2016. We therefore, appeal to residents and business owners to put out their bins for collection on the day (Saturday).
We also urge residents and business owners to be responsible and desist from illegally dumping waste by utilising the strategically located 42 garden sites in disposing off small quantities of any form of waste free of charge. All these garden sites will be open from 8am-to- 13:00 on Saturday.
The City of Johannesburg is your HOME! Don’t trash it. Recycle, Re-use and Reduce.
