15/07/2016: Socio Economic Conference for Women in Johannesburg
The Department of Economic and Social Development, within the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) are planning to host a Socio-Economic Conference for Women in Johannesburg and its surrounds on the 19 - 20 July 2016 from 08:00 to 15:00 at the Gallagher Convention Auditorium, 19 Richard Drive, Midrand, Johannesburg.
The City of Joburg has also collaborated with a range of partners namely the Common Wealth Business Woman secretariat, the National Department of Social Development, National Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, National Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), National Department of Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), to host a first of its kind, country wide, Socio-Economic Conference for Women in Johannesburg and its surrounds.
This emanates from a Vietnam Mission that was led by Madam Speaker in 2015. It presents an opportunity for Women in Business to showcase and demonstrate their export market-ready products for potential market penetration worldwide. The event will assist in honing the exporter’s ability to meet the international market standards. The Conference will provide a platform to pitch investments projects for Women in Business.
The Conference will also have a business to business matchmaking and networking sessions. This platform will assist in showcasing social development initiatives and projects ranging from poverty alleviation, self-help groups initiatives, NGO initiatives and community based organisation’s programmes and also to talk about 16 days of activism, 365 days of no violence against women and children.
The Socio-Economic Conference for Women in Joburg aims to present an opportunity for women in business to exhibit their market-ready products for potential market opportunities during the conference. In addition, to have women gathered together to speak about socio-economic issue that are of critical concern to women.

Showcasing social development initiatives and projects ranging from poverty alleviation, self-help groups initiatives.
Business to business matchmaking and networking sessions.
NGO initiatives and community based organisation's programmes.
Talk about 16 days of activism, 365 days of no violence against women and children.
One of the key objectives of the Department of Economic Development in the City of Johannesburg, and particularly the Trade and Investment Promotion directorate, is to develop and grow exporters through exposing them to trade and investment opportunities by creating markets penetration.
The key note speaker at the event will be Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Parks Tau, who will set the scene by outlining the role of women within the City Johannesburg. This event is aimed to strengthen and align partnerships across all spheres of government by supporting entrepreneurs and stakeholders within the sector.
The event is targeting to host 1200 entrepreneurs (600per day) that are operating in the all sector and ranging from youth, women and people with disabilities. Each day there will be 100 entrepreneurs who will be exhibiting their products for market penetration and networking opportunities.
At the event, partners will participate as panelist members and partake in the debates to assist businesses with compliance related. Sector specific experts and other related stakeholders will further participate on the programme. These experts will lead discussions by sharing their knowledge of the sector as well as highlight economic opportunities, social redress issues and challenges in these industry.
