​24/11/2016: Exporter Awareness Seminar Workshop  
 

The Department of Economic Development at the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) will be hosting an Export Awareness Seminar on the 1 December 2016 from 08:00 to 15:30 at the Joburg Theatre, 163 Civic Boulevard Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein.
 
The Export Awareness Seminar Workshop is a platform that will present an in-depth knowledge on offerings regarding export and how to be a global exporter. The workshop will provide information on global export markets for 120 potential exporters that are operating in the all sectors.
 
The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) developed a Global Export Passport Initiative as a training programme that forms part of the critical components of the National Export Development Programme (NEDP).
 
The initiative focuses on export capacity-building and the training of emerging and experienced exporters to ensure their export-ready status and sustainability in the international market.
 
The programme aims to build on existing activities and capacities of the dti, provincial economic development departments, provincial trade and investment agencies, Seda and other international and local stakeholders to ensure the delivery of key interventions for emerging and experienced exporters.
 
The Export Development Awareness Programme will be undertaken to increase exports on products and services which contribute to employment creation and the green economy. The event will target small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs), drawn from the ranks of the previously disadvantaged groups, while still taking into account the needs of large and established exporters. 
 
The Exporter Awareness Programme will train potential exporters in the following topics:
•Applying and participating on the Global Exporter Passport Programme
•Export readiness for businesses
•Product readiness for Export
•Setting up the export order
•Processing the export order
•Global Exporting
•Application for dti National Pavilions, Missions and ITI’s, the dti’s incentive schemes (EMIA)
The City of Johannesburg will be collaborating with The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) and Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) to present the Exporter Awareness Seminar Workshop to SMMEs in Johannesburg.
 
At the workshop, partners will present their offerings on export preparation and readiness.

In order to become an exporter, potential exporters need to be trained and informed about the international markets.
 
In most cases potential exporters are in at least one of two situations as per the dti’s findings:
 
The first situation is that they hold a strong position at the buyer's end - They either have a special relationship with an international buyer or they have the necessary expertise in specific markets and have the ability to secure market opportunities for a variety of products. If they are in this position, they would be referred to as a procurement agent or middleman (general trader).
 
They would normally work according to a buyer's shopping list, or will generally respond to international tenders, thus may not necessarily have expertise in the products being bought.
 
The second situation is - that the exporters may have a product or a range of products, or they may have assured
