26/09/2016: City of Joburg tackles substance abuse

The City of Johannesburg Social Development Department will conduct a consultative workshop with various stakeholders to curb substance abuse on 27-28 September 2016 at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.
The substance abuse is directly linked to high levels of crime; teenage pregnancy; unemployment and school drop-outs amongst the youth.

The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Mpho Phalatse, will therefore meet with various stakeholders to engage the community on what could be done together to curb the problem of drugs and substance abuse in the City of Johannesburg.

The meeting is also expected to discuss preventative measures to stop young people taking drugs, as well as interventions on how those who are caught in the cycle of abuse can be assisted to get off drugs.

Members of the media are invited to the dialogue to be held as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 27 September 2016
Time: 09h00
Venue: The Fringe, Joburg Theatre
163 Civic Boulevard, Braamfontein
