02/03/2017: MMC Phalatse to send off ‘Tour of Light’ cyclists in support of CANSA
MMC for Health and Social Development, Dr Mpho Phalatse will see off a total of 11 cyclists who will gather at the Grasmere Plaza just outside Johannesburg on 3 March 2017, to kick off the just over 1 400km ‘Tour of Light’ to Cape Town in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
This is aimed at spreading light and hope, as well as raising awareness for CANSA.
The tour includes visits to hospitals and cancer treatment centres en route. When the team arrives in Cape Town, other riders who have overcome cancer will join them to the finish line at Caffe Neo, opposite the light house in Sea Point.
The City of Johannesburg’s Health Department supports this initiative and believes that strategic partnerships are key in tackling the issues of awareness for the prevention of the different types of cancer.
The City of Johannesburg would also like to take this opportunity to encourage all residents to get a free cancer screening at any of our 81 clinics across the city.
The send-off will take place as follows:
Date: Friday, 3 March 2017
Venue: Grasmere Engen 1 Stop
Time: 05:00am
Members of the public, and media are invited to join. There will be photo and interview opportunities.
